Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism. He was recognized as the Dalai Lama in childhood and later lived in exile in India after 1959. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for advocating nonviolent solutions.
